Students in their final year of school
are considered a high-risk group for depression and anxiety. Sleep deprivation, diet and social media are some of the biggest issues faced by this group of teens. Therefore it is vitally important that a student's mental health is looked after as well as their physical health.
Keeping things in perspective for students and parents alike, can help prevent everyone getting overwhelmed. Although this final year is important, it is not necessarily the most important year of your child's life.
There are many strategies that students can implement to help themselves. Parents can provide support, not only emotionally, but also practically by keeping their child well-nourished and encouraging physical activity.
In this special report, parents will find useful tips to support their child during this often stressful time. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered here and we always welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information.

The Scots School Albury is hosting a Parent Education Evening:
The Drug Education Project on Thursday 25th October at 6.00pm in the Chapel Hall. Sharon Torpey, the Founder and Director of Drug Education Australiaand other speakers will address our audience. This session is specifically targeted at parents of teenagers, but is relevant and open to parents with children of all ages. It supports a consistent and prepared approach for parents of adolescents, as much as those with primary aged students seeking to establish good practices and expectations well ahead of more demanding times. Communication is a strong protective factor in reducing drug and alcohol related harm and empowering parents is crucial in this process. The parent session covers a range of drug and alcohol related issues, accentuating positive norms and empowering parents to keep the lines of communication open. The session will provide relevant, fact based, best practice education, with practical strategies to avoid harm. This event is free and open to all parents from Year 7-12.
