Term 1 Issue 1 2022

Welcome from Mr Gavin Dykes

Gavin Dykes, Principal

What a great start we have had to the 2022 school year!  It has been wonderful to have everyone back on site after the break and I have enjoyed catching up with many of our staff and students to hear about their holidays and also their plans for the year ahead.

I’ve also enjoyed welcoming our new Year 7 students along with new students in other year levels into our Xavier community.  I am so pleased you chose to join us at Xavier and I hope you have enjoyed your first few weeks at school.

St. Francis Xavier Centre

As many of you would know, the St. Francis Xavier Centre is complete and operational!  It’s a wonderful facility that I hope our students and staff will enjoy using for many years to come. I hope to provide an opportunity for families to tour the stadium when covid restrictions ease.

RAT testing kits available for collection

As we commence the school year, we continue to face some challenges with Covid-19.

I thank everyone for their ongoing support and cooperation during this time as we continue to abide by NSW Government requirements and I appreciate everyone's efforts to keep our school community safe. For now, the current process remains with RAT testing encouraged  on Monday and Wednesdays and mask wearing for staff and students.

We have had more RAT kits delivered to the school and parents and staff are able to collect another two weeks supply of kits from the front office.

Xavier Swimming Carnival - Thursday 17th February

On Thursday 17th February 2022, we will be hosting our annual swimming carnival at the Albury Swim Centre.

Our swimming carnival will have a new look this year which we hope will increase participation and community spirit within houses and foster some competitiveness to allow for those who wish to pursue further pathway a chance to do so.

If students wish to progress to the BISSA interschool level they must sign up in extended homeroom to participate in the competitive swim carnival which will start at 8.50am and finish at 11am. Students who sign up to the competitive swim carnival must make their own way to the Albury Swim Centre.

If students do not wish to participate in the competitive swim carnival they will arrive at school on Thursday as normal but in house colours. Students will have an extended homeroom to finalise relay teams for the afternoon and then they will take part in a house multi sport competition which will finish around 10.50am.

Students at school will then be bussed from Xavier High School to Albury swim centre.

At 11.30 all students will take part in the House competition section of the swim carnival. We will also have a water polo tournament in the 25m pool. The waterslide will be operating as per normal swim carnival. The carnival will finish at 3.20pm and students will be dismissed from the pool. A separate permission form for the BISSA competitors along with any other details will be available to families on Monday 14th February.  We will have confirmation by Monday if parents will be allowed to attend the carnival as well.

Class of 1992 - 30 Year Reunion

Xavier High School Albury Class of 1992 - 30 Year Reunion

When: June 11, 2022 – 6pm – 11:30pm

Where: Beer Deluxe Albury – Crown Lounge Level 2

The first reunion was about seeing where some people were at, 10 years on in life. The 20-year reunion was about finding people who had moved on in life. Let’s make the 30-year reunion about bringing us all back together.

Join us to celebrate/commiserate or just forget that it’s been 30 years (some more than that) since we’ve all been together.

We would love for you to share this event with as many as you can so that we can come together again.

The price per person will be $50 and will include food in your belly, lucky door prizes and a drink on arrival.

Bank details will be provided in due course and a due date will be advised as well.

If all that doesn’t get you enthused, then maybe just the thought of seeing an old friend (or foe) to reminisce, will be enough to draw you to this auspicious event.

We would love to see you there, including those we can’t reach and come together to celebrate moments in time that we all shared. #1992

Australian Air Force Cadets

The Australian Air Force Cadets is a youth development organisation supported by the Air Force for young people between the ages of 12 and 16 years of age who are interested in developing themselves and learning new skills that they take with them into their adult lives. It is not just an organisation for those young people considering a military career or just interesting in flying.

There is so much more on offer!

We are now recruiting for our 2022 intake and will be holding an information session for interested young people and their parents.

Sunday, 13 February 2022 commencing at 5pm at our squadron at the corner of Dalton Place and Avalon St at the Albury Airport.
