Lorraine Willis Assistant Principal - Students
What a busy week it has been at Xavier! It is a good time to remember that we are asked in John’s Gospel to, “Please send them on their way in a manner that honours God.” In that vein, we have been called this week to live out our faith in our welcome and care of others. This week we have had the annual visit of our Chinese Delegation from our sister schools in Nanping. We have been visited by 46 students and seven staff from Nanping No 1 Senior High School and Jianjing Middle School.
We were treated to wonderful performances from the visiting students in an assembly to welcome the group - traditional songs, dance, musical performances and even a rubics cube display! That began a jam-packed few days of specialist classes, shadowing host students and a visit to a primary school. It has been an enjoyable week and has opened up many new experiences and opportunities while continuing the strength of the relationship and friendship that has grown over the years. We would like to offer our thanks to all those staff, students and families involved in providing the experiences.
In the midst of our visitors, learning has continued to thrive, with Year 12 students taking part in evening study sessions in preparation for their upcoming Trial Examinations and our Year 10s attending subject selections sessions and the evening information session and faculty fair. Both cohorts are entering important times for the next step of their learning journey.
We witnessed individual excellence from one of our students this week, when Year 10 student Mackenzie Muller finished 6th in the National Swimming Titles! What a wonderful achievement and a wonderful reward for all of Mackenzie’s hard work in the sport that she loves!
Looking forward to next week, we are preparing for the arrival of a group of students from Yuendemu. Forging the continued relationship with the community in Yuendemu, this reciprocal visit will lead to the Year 11 Immersion visit that will take place at the end of Term 3.
