Our Year 10 Academic and Spiritual Enhancement week took place in Melbourne, this was our first one and a great week was had by all. The first two days were a retreat led by Mrs Ashleigh Donaldson and Mr Ed Brown, with students really immersing themselves in the experience and making us proud. The remaining three days were a variety of activities including visits to universities, tv stations, the Institute of Sport and Fitness and a number of different other opportunities for them, in the areas of Study and Careers. A big thank you to all of the staff involved, especially Mrs Nicole Morton and Mrs Abbey Carey for all the preparation work they have carried out in getting this great opportunity for our students off the ground.

Our Year 12 Graduation was on Tuesday night and again another wonderful celebration of our amazingly talented students. Our year 12’s have been a great group throughout their time here at the school. It was a sad but joyous farewell as we sent them off into the next stage of their lives and we wish them all the very best in their journey.

As we come to the end of week 5 and there is less than 5 weeks of school to go, a reminder to all of our students to keep focus on their studies and before long, it will be the end of the year. With that in mind, have a lovely weekend.

The girls are a part of the Under 18's team that competed and won the "Singa" Cup in Singapore last week. All the trips after school each week for training have certainly paid off. Congratulations girls, we are very proud of your achievements.

Evidence based research has found that there are many benefits to mindfulness which has prompted schools across the nation to implement this practice into their daily routines.

Mindfulness can be described as attention training for your brain, enabling you to focus on something without judgement and to stimulate curiosity. Mindfulness can be practised in a number of ways and is something that can be done by everyone - no matter what your age! It has been practised by many cultures around the world, but it is not exclusively affiliated to any particular philosophy or religion.

Mindfulness helps improve memory, engagement and performance. Its positive effect on the brain can improve immunity, mental wellbeing, learning ability, emotional health and even, time management. It is especially important in this era of information overload as our attention is constantly being pulled in many directions making us more distracted.

In this edition of SchoolTV, parents can learn the best way to introduce mindfulness to their children, implementing it into their daily lives to have an overall positive impact on family relationships. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this month’s edition and we always welcome your feedback.

With families finishing up their time at Xavier, we sadly lose some of our canteen volunteers. Days are split into 2 shifts (please see below). 

The Volunteer Registration Form can be accessed HERE, or alternatively, please contact Debbie Hayes on 0429 806233 or Heather Yensch on 0423 611149.

Volunteers are required to assist with the preparation of food and serving in the canteen.

List of Tasks For Volunteers

• Help get out food and drinks to assist with serving

• Preparing Sandwiches and other food as required

• Heating muffins

• Serving students

• Using flexischools/Cash register

Shift One:

Mon, Wed, Thurs - 10.45 - 11.45am ( 60 mins)

Tues - 10.30 - 11.30am (alternate timetable)

Fridays - 10.45 - 12.15pm ( 90 minutes)

Shift Two:

Mon, Wed, Thurs - 1 - 2.15pm ( 75 mins)

Tues - 12.30 - 1.30pm (alternate timetable)

Fridays - 12.15 - 2.15pm ( 120 minutes)

School returns on January 31 for Years 7, 10, 11 and 12. Students in Years 8 & 9 will return, Friday Feburary 1.

Term 1 will finish on Friday, April 12.

Please note that the school office will re-open on Monday, January 21.

The session will run from 4pm to 6.30pm.
