Year 10 student Xin Yuan Shen is among some of the best students in Victoria/Border NSW and has just realised that he has been successful in being accepted as a part of the 2018 Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program, which gives year 11s a taste of campus life and access to university resources.

The KLD scholarship will provide Jackie with access to a wide range of resources through the University of Melbourne, as well as access to alternate entry pathways to the University should he choose to study there in the future. He may also be eligible for study grants to access overseas partner institutions of Melbourne University and be able to access support in settling in Melbourne.

The KLD scholarship now involves 500 schools, who nominate their top Year 10 students for the program.

Students are selected on academic ability but also leadership potential, demonstrated in community work or sporting events. Xin Yuan has excelled in his studies here at Xavier High School as well as making significant contributions to his church community. He is also a very talented pianist, spending many hours practising and performing.

A huge congratulations to Xin Yuan. As a school we are very proud of his achievement and encourage others to consider the opportunities available to them in the future also.

With Xavier coming off a win against Scots and St Paul’s defeating Trinity in their respective Round One games, both sides were well primed to continue their winning run.

After losing the toss, Xavier was sent into the field. Sam Azzi and Kaelen Bradtke tied the visitors down and made scoring very difficult. With regular wickets falling, Xavier was very much on top from the outset. A very solid bowling and fielding performance saw St Paul’s bowled out for 67 in the 25th over. One area in which the team will need to improve for their future matches is in the number of sundries which were leaked. This made up almost half of the St Paul’s final total.

In reply to St Paul’s total, Ethan Moore and Tyler Roberson showed no mercy and started with a flurry. That was before Ethan was run out for 27 with the score on 55 following a dubious call from his partner. Tyler went on to top score with 41 before the score was passed in the eighth over one wicket down.

Xavier continued on with their innings until the stumps were called in the 15th over. At this stage the score was 4/134 with a comfortable win to Xavier.

This result will now see Xavier play off in the Rixon Cup Final sometime in the new year and look to defend the title.

With families finishing up their time at Xavier, we sadly lose some of our canteen volunteers. Days are split into 2 shifts (please see below).

Volunteers are required to assist with the preparation of food and serving in the canteen.

Mon, Wed, Thurs - 1 - 2.15pm ( 75 mins)

Tues - 12.30 - 1.30pm (alternate timetable)

Fridays - 12.15 - 2.15pm ( 120 minutes)

School returns on January 31 for Years 7, 10, 11 and 12. Students in Years 8 & 9 will return, Friday Feburary 1.

Term 1 will finish on Friday, April 12.

Please note that the school office will re-open on Monday, January 21.
