HSIE students from Xavier tested their geographical and historical skills and knowledge
against students from all around Australia in both the 2018 Australian Geography Competition and the 2018 Australian History Competition. We have a number of students who have performed to a very high level.
Over 72,000 students from 743 schools across the country participated in the Geography Competition with Sarah Shannon of Year 9 and Kylan Duffy of Year 8 achieving outstanding results - ranking in the top 1% of the country. A phenomenal achievement by anyone's standards - well done to both of you.
The History Competition had a similar candidature and High Distinctions were awarded to Isaac Dwyer in Year 7, Joel Frede in Year 8, Benjamin Harrington, Ian Burton, Sarah Shannon, Tobias Walsh and Ciara Dahl in Year 9, Mary Ann Thomas and Samuel Sharman in Year 10. A large number of other candidates received distinctions, credits and merits and should all be extremely proud of their efforts.
A big thanks to all of those students who took part in these national competitions. Certificates will soon be awarded to all of those who participated from Years 7 to 10.
