An Extraordinary Display of Talent

05 September 2014

With the opening of ‘Twenty Fourteen’, Xavier High School’s annual exhibition of HSC student works on Wednesday August 27 our Art Centre was once again a beautiful gallery filled with stunning works.

The diversity of work is a reflection of the freedom that students have to explore their individual interests. Every year the works challenge and amaze us.

The gallery also displayed Industrial Technology timber and multimedia projects. Once again creativity with attention to detail were the hallmarks of the works which included both the final work and a design portfolio outlining the journey from inspiration to product.

The evening performances began with a group performance of original theatre created by students Bonnie Moore, Teagan Futcher, Sheridan Simpson, Mikaela Evans-Gould and Anjil Henry. The girls impressed us with their expressive skills, their ability to realise and sustain a role, and also to establish a relationship with the audience.

Music performances were also showcased on the night by students Ellen Keogh, Matt Ortiz, Lara Files, Vince Cheng, Erin Smyth, Chris Mulcahy and Cameron Adams followed by roaring applause. It was an extraordinary display of talent by the students who performed up to two pieces from their HSC repertoire.

Year 12 will be completing their secondary studies in the next few weeks. They have been an outstanding group of young people throughout their six years at high school and on behalf of the students and staff at Xavier High School, I wish them every success both in the upcoming HSC examinations and for their future years at university or any other pathway they choose.
