CCC Junior Basketball Report

27 August 2014

In week six of this term, our junior girls and intermediate boys basketball teams travelled to Penrith to compete in the CCC State Finals.

After winning the regional tournaments in their respective ages, these sides qualified to represent the Wagga Wagga Diocese at this level.
The intermediate boys had a very tough game to start their campaign. They came up against the eventual winners and traditional powerhouse in Holy Spirit Bellambi. The boys applied themselves quite well, however, went down by 34. Their other three games were very close affairs. With losses of one, four and four in these games, the boys could have easily walked away with three wins and a loss. Unfortunately this was not to be. With a number of underage players, this team will most certainly be strong again next year.

The junior girls’ team had a fantastic carnival. In their round games, the girls managed three fairly easy wins and a hard fought five point loss. This left them in second in their pool going into the semi-final against Monte Girls School Sydney. In what was a very tight tussle, the lead changed countless times in the final three minutes. Unfortunately the calm heads of the Monte girls got them just over the line, with our girls finishing in the bronze medal position.

A big thankyou to Ebony Gooding for coaching the junior girls team as well as assisting in looking after all the students whilst we were away.
