NSW Young Regional Artist Award

18 September 2015

Former Xavier High School student Matt Ortiz who graduated in 2014 was recently announced as the recipient of a $10,000 NSW Young Regional Artist Scholarship which will see him engage in a 12 month program including a songwriting short course at the Australian Institute of Music in Melbourne, writing of new material and work-shopping of this material with industry professionals at the Australian Songwriters Conference in 2016, before recording of an LP in August 2016.

Matt’s scholarship program will kick off on 2 October at MAMA (Murray Art Museum Albury) where he will perform his original song ‘Hangman’s Noose’ on stage on opening night.

Matt was chosen with 2 other emerging local musicians to have a music video made by international film maker Andrew Pearce to accompany their original song which will be on display inside MAMA as part of the Sonic Splendour Exhibition from October 2nd till November 8th.

Matt is a great example of the amazing opportunities out there for young people who have a passion for music or the arts. Xavier was a great place to foster that talent. Matt is looking forward to the year ahead.
