Sports Report

28 October 2016

Last week was a busy week for sport at Xavier. We sent 3 teams off to BISSA Waterpolo to compete at the Albury pool on the Wednesday 19th.

After a long and not so sunny day they came away successful winning both boys and girls competitions against Scots, Trinity, Mater Dei, Kildare and TRAC Wagga. It is a credit to our students who not only represented in a playing capacity but were instrumental in officiating most games when they weren’t playing. This is a credit to the students lead by Teagan Baines and Megan Campbell. We see the Junior girls Waterpolo team heading to Sydney for CCC Championships this Thursday and wish them all the best.

Last week also saw our junior boys and girls basketball teams head to Penrith for CCC Championships on the 21st-22nd October. Teams competed in round games on Thursday before finals on Friday. Both teams won their round games and progressed to quarter finals, unfortunately the boys lost to St Andrew’s in a close game. The girls were more successful winning their way comfortably through both quarter and semi finals and progress to the grand final. They played the grand final against Monte St Angelo and after a close fought game and a few injuries the girls unfortunately went down by 8 points. Thanks to Sam Gosbell and Ebony Gooding for their expert coaching.

Finally on Monday the intermediate girls cricket team competed in the North East Knights gala day at Alexandra park. The girls competed well but went down by 10 runs to Corowa High in the first game. They were then able to turn the tables to get up and pass CCW’s total of 59 in the second game, meaning they finished second overall.

Well done to all students on representing the school.
