The Albury City Youth Council is now in session, with 13 passionate young people ranging from 13 to 18 years of age ready to represent the youth of Albury.
The Youth Council hopes to achieve greater engagement during their term as well as tackling key issues affecting young people, such as bullying, mental health issues and drug and alcohol.
The role of the Youth Council is to assist Albury City Council on youth affairs.
Youth Mayor, Oliver O’Neill, said:
“I’m looking forward to working closely with both the Albury City Council and the Albury City Youth Council to advocate for issues affecting young people and the broader community as a whole.”
Albury City Deputy Mayor Cr Amanda Cohn said it was a privilege to be able to work with the Youth Council to make Albury a better place to live.
“As a councillor under the age of 30, making sure the voices of young people in our community are heard is a high priority for me,” she said.
“Young people are often stereotyped in negative ways, but I believe they are an important part of the solution to many issues affecting our community.”
