Year 9 PASS Wheelchair Basketball Experience

28 October 2016

Last Thursday 20th October the Year 9 PASS Classes were able to take part in wheelchair basketball here at Xavier.

This was lead by Lincoln Budge a local disabled athlete who after a tragic accident lost the use of his lower body. Lincoln spoke to students about his experiences after the accident and also about his involvement in a variety of disabled sports that have taken him around the world. Students then had the opportunity to participate in a game which all enjoyed and gained an insight into the difficulties faced by people who are wheelchair bound. This related to their area of study on specific groups in society and participation in physical activity. We hope to utilise Lincoln in the future and allow a greater number of students to listen to and experience wheelchair basketball. Lincoln is in the process of fundraising to purchase new chairs which will allow him to further engage with young people and talk to them about risks.
